Simply Better Coffee.
We get that speciality coffee can be complicated. Brew methods, processes and varieties sometimes get in the way of enjoying coffee shop quality at home.
Since 2020, we have been championing high quality blends as one way to experience better coffee. Roasted meticulously in Donegal, we are taking you one step closer to bringing out the best in speciality coffee.
How it all started.
Richard, the founder of New Kid, used the world’s foremost speciality coffee expert as a mentor for two and a half years (using a small 500g roaster in his in-law’s garage!) to perfect his craft.
In terms of quality of the product, he went to crazy lengths to make sure it was perfect before introducing New Kid to the outside world.
All beans are sourced as current crop ensuring that the raw materials are as fresh as possible, and we use a German built Probatone 12 roaster (the leading edge in coffee roasters) – affectionately named “Günther” by Richard himself.
The sudden and untimely death of Richard in September 2023 left a massive hole in our hearts. Richard was so passionate about New Kid and spreading his love for fine coffee – so, in honour of the main man, we’ve dusted ourselves off and want to do him proud.
Meet the Team
Olivia
Wee Boss Lady
Olivia is Richard’s wife and partner in crime and business for almost 20 years – Olivia, closely supported by the wonderful Mia and Matthew (daughter and son), has been behind Richard through the whole New Kid journey and she is determined to keep Richard’s memory, and the legacy he has created in New Kid, alive so that we can all continue to enjoy Simply Better Coffee.
Keith
Big Roaster Boy
Keith has had the pleasure (and pain at times…!) of working closely with Richard for several years, soaking up everything Richard had learned and put into New Kid. Keith is chief roaster at New Kid! He also just happens to be the 2022 Irish Brewers Cup Champion – what better person to bring New Kid forward into this next chapter than the champ himself! Keith’s attention to detail and appreciation of a great cup of coffee means you can be guaranteed a consistently excellent product.
Elaine
I Do What I'm Told
Elaine has been Richard and Olivia’s right-hand woman for several years, working in a sister business run by the family in Donegal. Elaine now works alongside Keith in the roastery keeping everything ship-shape, shiny and organised. We’d be lost without our Elaine – she holds us all together and keeps things running smoothly!
